Situated where the Mattawa and Ottawa Rivers converge, the town of Mattawa is a hidden gem steeped in history. Once a meeting place and trade route for Indigenous Peoples and French Voyageurs, Mattawa continues to embrace its heritage through its vibrant culture and connection to the land. Visitors are drawn to its world-class paddling and camping opportunities, the festive Mattawa Voyageur Days, the exciting Voyageur Multi-Use Trail System (VMUTS), and 19-foot wooden statues honouring local historical figures.

High Season

The summer and fall seasons are the perfect time to explore one of Ontario's least crowded parks, Samuel de Champlain Provincial Park. named after the famous explorer. Hike the challenging Kag Trail Loop set amidst stunning red pine forests or paddle to Talon Chutes—the park's most popular day trip. Stop in at the Mattawa River Visitor Centre for a friendly welcome and visit the Mattawa Museum to see exhibits on the voyageurs, logging, and Indigenous culture. Looking to reel in the big one? The Ottawa River is a world-class fishing destination where anglers can spend the day reeling in walleye, pike, or bass. For ATV enthusiasts, VMUTS offers some of the province's best trails (and scenery).

Winter

Mattawa is an exciting winter destination for outdoor adventure lovers. For snowmobilers, Mattawa is located in OFSC District 11 and the region offers more than 300 kilometres of well-maintained groomed trails, part of Ontario's renowned snowmobile network. Antoine Mountain is a popular destination for skiers, famous for its long runs, Doppelmayr quad chair, and stunning views.
