High Season
Summer in Cochrane is all about the great outdoors. Visitors come to hike, bike, ATV, camp, fish and paddle, and the area is full of excellent lodges and outfitters who offer equipment, trail and cabin access as well as guided tours. Golfers can tee up at the Lee Golf Club. Festivals and events like the annual Cochrane Summerfest bring the community to life with live music, local food, and family-friendly fun—making summer the perfect time to visit.

Winter in Cochrane
Winter transforms Cochrane into a snowy paradise. Snowmobilers from across the province flock to the region’s spectacular trails, and ice fishing on frozen lakes provides the ultimate northern experience. Visitors can enjoy the ski and snowshoe trails at the Cochrane Cross-Country Ski Club, or celebrate the best of winter at the annual Cochrane Winter Carnival.

Commando Lake is a hub for outdoor fun in the city centre. Hit the beach or take a hike on 2.2 km of easy walking trails around the perimeter of the lake and enjoy the views from the Canada 150 boardwalk.

Ride the Polar Bear Express line to Moosonee and Moose Factory, the “Gateway of the Arctic”. You can hunt, fish, camp, and even see some amazing wildlife and Northern Lights in this unique and beautiful northern community.

Cochrane, part of District 15, is a premier destination for sledders. Located along TOP Trail A, it is also part of the legendary Abitibi Canyon Loop, the Gateway to the North, and several local loops. Try Abitibi Canyon Base Camp for some incredible riding opportunities.
