French River
Home to paddling adventures, Indigenous culture, and scenic hiking routes.

The French River, a designated Canadian Heritage River since 1986, stretches 111 kilometres from Lake Nipissing to Georgian Bay in Ontario, Canada. Historically, it served as a vital waterway for Indigenous Peoples and later became a key route for French explorers and fur traders in the 17th century.
Today, the welcoming Municipality of French River offers visitors a pristine base for exploring French River Provincial Park, with rugged Canadian Shield landscapes and interconnected lakes ideal for world-class canoeing, kayaking, and fishing. Visitors can explore the award-winning French River Visitor Centre, which provides insights into the area's cultural and natural history. The park also offers backcountry camping with over 250 campsites, allowing for immersive experiences in this historically significant and ecologically rich region.
