Perched along the Mattawishkwia River, Hearst offers world-class hunting, fishing, and cross-country skiing, plus over 1000 kilometres of pristine snowmobile trails for winter enthusiasts. Hearst’s story is steeped in railway history, born from the construction of the National Transcontinental Railway in the early 1900s. Originally called Grant, the town was renamed to honour Sir William Howard Hearst, a lawyer and politician who went on to serve as the seventh Premier of Ontario.
